What Is the Japan Rail Pass?
The JR Pass gives unlimited travel on JR trains nationwide, including most Shinkansen (bullet trains). Available in 7, 14, and 21-day options for foreign tourists.
2026 Prices
- 7 days: ยฅ50,000 (Ordinary) / ยฅ70,000 (Green/First Class)
- 14 days: ยฅ80,000 / ยฅ110,000
- 21 days: ยฅ100,000 / ยฅ140,000
Is It Worth It?
Calculate your routes first. Key Shinkansen fares for reference:
- Tokyo โ Kyoto: ยฅ13,320 one way
- Tokyo โ Osaka: ยฅ13,870 one way
- Tokyo โ Hiroshima: ยฅ18,380 one way
- Kyoto โ Hiroshima: ยฅ11,420 one way
Worth it if: Tokyo โ Kyoto โ Hiroshima โ Osaka + local JR trains. Not worth it if: Just Tokyo โ Kyoto round trip (ยฅ26,640 < ยฅ50,000).
